Educação e civilidade nas memórias de infância de imigrantes japoneses

Abstract

Japanese Immigration in Brazil began effectively in 1908, when the groups reached at the port of Santos and fixated mainly in the states of São Paulo and Paraná. In the following decades, the state of Mato Grosso do Sul received others Japanese immigrants, becoming the state as the third largest Japanese community in Brazil, currently. Thus, the mark of difference, not only in the physical, but in habits, mannerisms, social position and education, is present in the Brazilian daily life. That is why, in attempt to understand how the Japanese Education constituted itself in Dourados-MS, we used the methodological procedures of Oral History, interviewing five Japanese immigrants born between 1939 and 1940, that lived the childhood and the adolescence in Japan, came to Brazil in the 1950s and took up residence on the outskirts of Dourados-MS. Their reminiscence helped us to trace their childhoods lived in Japan, the routes and the reasons that made them come to Brazil, the education obtained in the Japanese tradition, the relations established from the residence in Brazil and the prominence of the following generations. We found that the collective is in the priorities of the group, reinforced by the hierarchy values and the self-discipline, contemplated by the dedication for the studies and in emphasis of the Japanese language education, remaining, so, an unambiguous feeling between to be Japanese in Brazil and Brazilian in Japan.
