A Metaficção historiográfica em Noturno do Chile de Roberto Bolaño

Abstract

Having achieved bestselling success and cult status, the Chilean writer Roberto Bolaño pleases both critics and reading public, arousing the attention and curiosity of those who are interested in Latin American and Chilean literature in particular. From this writer, we select as corpus of study By Night in Chile (2004), the author's first book translated in Brazil. This paper proposes, therefore, to study the novel By Night in Chile under the perspective of historiographic metafiction, based on the theory of "Poetics of postmodernism," according to the reflections developed by Linda Hutcheon, among others. In this Roberto Bolaño’s novel, the process of historiographic metafiction is evidenced and deepens in the projections of the narrator who, among others, recalls facts about the Pinochet’s dictatorship, in a storyline in which several characters, including a literary critic, are particularly committed to the cultural and historical context of the country, and whose narrative develops through only two paragraphs that compose the work. Therefore, both analysis and approach of this work focuses on verification of the historiographic metafiction as a reading proposal of the universe of discourse in which fictional characters are mixed with historical figures, weaving, thereby, the links between the stated and annunciation plans and the narratological component that makes up By Night in Chile’s narrative.
