Abstract: In this dissertation, an investigation was conducted on the relationship between prominent artists of the sertanejo music genre and former president Jair Messias Bolsonaro. The aim was to assess the hypothesis that this relationship is part of the populist practices of the politician. To achieve this goal, we used works related to this discussion, as well as analyses of the discourse and performance of the musicians and Bolsonaro. The sociocultural perspective on populism developed by Pierre Ostiguy (2017), Mário Dunkel (2022), and Melanie Schiller (2022) was applied to the case analyzed here, alongside the concepts of Ernesto Laclau (2013) and Chantal Mouffe (2019). Ultimately, it was possible to understand that the nature of this relationship can be seen as a populist practice, insofar as other strategically driven experiences share deep similarities with the candidacy and mandate of the Brazilian politician, as well as the potential to apply the understanding of the concept to the relationship between Bolsonaro and the musicians.

Abstract: This research is part of the emerging scientific subfield of Sociology, called Sociology Teaching (DO RÊGO FERREIRA; OLIVEIRA, 2015), which gained relevance and a substantial increase in reflections from the year 2008, especially through the enactment of Law 11,684/2008, which made Sociology a
mandatory subject for all stages of High School (OLIVEIRA, 2013). Since its main focus is to understand the process of building the teaching practice of Sociology teachers, this research is situated within the most recent approaches in the state of the art of the subfield of Sociology teaching (OLIVEIRA; MELCHIORETTO, 2020). In particular, it aims to examine how teaching is developed, for and by Sociology teachers when they need to address content related to gender. This investigation is justified by the national, political, social, and economic scenario formed from the year 2017, in which the implementation of a series of anti-democratic reforms in the country's basic education, as in the case of the High School Reform (PALUDO, 2020), alongside the weakening of the legitimacy of the Sociology subject and its content in this context (BODART; FEIJÓ, 2020). Added to this is the fact of analyzing the correspondence between the mentioned elements and the transnational aspects formed since 2016, namely, the simultaneous rise of the far right to positions of power and the advancement of neoliberal
and conservative discourses and practices (BROWN, 2019). As an analytical background, the research relies on the theoretical support of philosopher Byung-Chul Han (2017;2020) on the configurations and operationalities of contemporary capitalism. This is combined with historical, post-structural, and social reflections that constitute gender studies, as well as studies related to the teaching of Sociology. Previously, the research has as a hypothesis to be tested that, considering the repertoire of political and social issues involving the teaching of Sociology, especially concerning its current situation, analyzed here, of being under threat within school curricula, present a scenario of old disputes between the forces of capitalism and critical education. Considering the inclination of this analysis, that is, to understand how teachers construct their classroom routines, the research therefore uses mixed methods of semi-structured interviews with public school teachers from the state of Mato Grosso do Sul and the
Mestiza feminist approach, whose focus is to portray the nuances of the field.

Abstract: This dissertation deepens the historical and sociological analysis of the territorial expropriation and the exploitation of the labor force of the Guarani-Kaiowá people in southern Mato Grosso do Sul, articulating both phenomena as complementary dimensions of the development of dependent capitalism in Brazil. The text shows that, since the nineteenth century, the actions of the Companhia Matte Larangeira inaugurated the systematic process of plundering Indigenous lands, based on the exploitation of erva-mate (yerba mate) and the use of forced Indigenous labor. The state concession granted to the company consolidated the formation of the latifundium (large landed estate), which was born “under the sign of violence against native populations.” This land structure is interpreted as a central element of capitalist accumulation and imperialist domination, perpetuating forms of economic and extra-economic coercion. Throughout the twentieth century, the State’s Indigenous policy — first through the SPI and
later the FUNAI — consolidated the confinement of the Guarani-Kaiowá in small reserves, reducing their territories to less than 1% of their original area. The imposition of “captain” leaders and the destruction of traditional organization (based on the tekoharuvicha) disintegrated Indigenous social systems and facilitated their forced integration into precarious wage labor in farms and sugar mills. The work draws on authors such as Marx, Mariátegui, and Cueva, among others, to explain that territorial expropriation and Indigenous labor exploitation are two sides of the same logic of capital reproduction in the periphery. The reserves functioned as a labor reserve army available for overexploitation, while racist ideology legitimized domination. The dissertation concludes that the contemporary struggle of the Guarani-Kaiowá for land retomadas (reoccupations) represents not only cultural resistance but also a form of confrontation with the landowning structure and the capitalist/imperialist system. This resistance — marked by violence and criminalization — expresses the continuity of the historical struggle for self-determination and the recovery of tekohas, configuring a movement to “expropriate the expropriators.”

Abstract: This study investigated the digital populist communication style adopted by the new right in Brazil, using as its empirical object the journalistic program Os Pingos nos Is, broadcast by Jovem Pan. Drawing on the theoretical framework of Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe, along with contributions from Letícia Cesarino, Jorge Wink, and Camila Rocha, the research analyzed how the populist rhetoric of the new right manifests in digital environments and contributes to the construction of political antagonisms, emotional mobilization, and disqualification of opponents. The general objective was to understand how the digital populist communication style is configured in the discourse of Os Pingos nos Is, focusing on the 2018 and 2022 elections. The specific objectives were to characterize the rhetorical elements that sustain populist antagonism, map the discursive effects on the audience, and examine the construction of symbolic equivalences between the presenters and the political field of the new right. The methodology consisted of a qualitative case study, based on the construction of an analytical narrative from data collected from 52 selected episodes of Os Pingos nos Is, aired in September and October of the 2018 and 2022 election years. The corpus was subjected to textual analysis using the IRaMuTeQ software, through Descending Hierarchical Classification and Word Cloud generation, enabling observation of the frequency, association, and hierarchy of terms used in the discourses. The data were organized by dominant themes and confronted with literature on digital populism, rhetoric, and technopolitics. The results revealed the constant presence of typical elements of the populist style, such as the dichotomy between people and elite, the intensive use of affective language, the use of memes, irony, and religious analogies, as well as emphasis on internal and external enemies. The analysis of hierarchical classes and word clouds indicated the predominance of expressions related to morality, anti-petismo, institutional delegitimization, and conservative masculinity. A change in the degree of radicalization was also observed between the electoral cycles analyzed, with an intensification of offensive rhetoric in 2022. It is concluded that Os Pingos nos Is functions as a platform for disseminating
a digital populist style aligned with the Brazilian new right, articulating rhetorical and technopolitical resources that contribute to the formation of a polarized discursive field. By constructing equivalences between presenters, political figures, and conservative values, the mobilized discourse fosters affective identification and ideological adherence from an audience amplified through digital networks.
