Abstract: Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) rank among the major global public health challenges, with oxidative stress representing one of the central mechanisms involved in their onset and progression. This condition arises from the accumulation of reactive species capable of damaging lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids, thereby reinforcing interest in natural compounds with antioxidant potential, particularly those found in products derived from stingless bees. Propolis produced by Plebeia droryana, a species native to the Cerrado biome, exhibits a diverse chemical profile rich in potentially therapeutic secondary metabolites; however, gaps remain regarding its biological effects and safety of use. In this context, the present study evaluated the antioxidant potential of the ethanolic extract of P. droryana &#xD;
propolis (EEP-Pd) through in vitro assays, assessing its ability to protect proteins and DNA against oxidative damage, and in vivo assays using the preclinical model Caenorhabditis elegans. In the in vitro assays, EEP-Pd reduced AAPH-induced protein oxidation, as well as DNA damage caused by the combined action of H₂O₂ and UV radiation, indicating a direct antioxidant effect on biomolecules. In the toxicity assay, concentrations below 1500 µg/mL did not compromise the viability of C. elegans, establishing a safe range for subsequent analyses. However, in the assays evaluating resistance to subchronic (40 µM) and acute (250 µM) oxidative stress, both induced by juglone, EEP-Pd did not increase nematode resistance under the evaluated conditions. These findings indicate that although EEP-Pd exhibits antioxidant capacity at the molecular level, its in vivo efficacy may be limited by factors such as absorption or interaction with endogenous defense pathways of the model. Therefore, the &#xD;
need for complementary studies involving detailed chemical characterization, the use of different strains, and the investigation of regulatory pathways is reinforced in order to better understand its mechanisms of action and potential biological properties.

Abstract: The state of Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), with its vast and diverse landscape, including the Atlantic Forest, Pantanal, and Cerrado biomes, presents a wide range of physiognomies that directly influence insect diversity. However, these biomes are under increasing anthropogenic pressure, negatively affecting biodiversity and reinforcing the need to expand our knowledge of the state’s biota. Among the most ecologically important insect groups are bees, which play essential roles in ecosystem functioning, particularly through pollination. In this study, we compiled data on the richness and distribution of bee fauna of Mato Grosso do Sul, gathering occurrence records and characterizing sampling patterns. We assembled a database of specimens deposited in scientific collections, searched the literature, and used the speciesLink platform. We georeferenced collection sites and conducted a taxonomic &#xD;
validation with specialists. Using QGIS, we generated heat maps (KDE) to visualize sampling concentration and species richness. In total, we gathered information on 375 species, including 40 new records for the state and some species previously unknown to Brazil. The analysis showed that sampling efforts are concentrated in the western portion of MS, particularly near the Pantanal-Cerrado border, where species richness is highest. These results reveal pronounced sampling gaps across the Mato Grosso do Sul.

Abstract: Cancer is a multifactorial disease influenced by lifestyle, genetic, and epigenetic factors that affect gene expression and lead to dysfunctional cellular processes, such as uncontrolled proliferation and apoptosis evasion. With approximately 10 million deaths per year, the demand for new therapies continues to grow. Brazil’s biodiversity, rich in bioactive natural products, emerges as a promising source, and alternatives such as apitherapy have been investigated in search of more effective treatments with fewer side effects. In this context, the present study aimed to investigate the effect of propolis from the stingless bee Plebeia droryana on healthy cells and cancer cell lines. Propolis samples were collected and the ethanolic extract of Plebeia droryana propolis (EEPPd) was prepared. The effects of EEPPd were then evaluated through a cell viability assay using the reagent 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs; healthy cells) and in cancer cell lines: murine melanoma (B16F10-Nex2), human melanoma (SK-MEL-103), and leukemia (Jurkat). PBMCs and cancer cells were treated with different concentrations (10–1000 µg/mL) of the extract for 24 h. The results show that EEPPd did not affect PBMC viability at concentrations below 250 µg/mL. The extract reduced the viability of all three cancer cell lines, although with distinct response patterns. In the murine melanoma line B16F10-Nex2, reduction occurred only at 500 and 1000 µg/mL (IC₅₀ = 783.3 µg/mL). In the human melanoma line SK&#xD;
MEL-103, the effect was observed from 25 to 1000 µg/mL (IC₅₀ = 614.1 µg/mL). The Jurkat leukemia lineage was the most sensitive, with significant reduction at 250, 500, and 1000 µg/mL (IC₅₀ = 447.59 µg/mL). Selectivity index (SI) analysis revealed values of 0.79 for B16F10-Nex2, 1.01 for SK-MEL-103, and 1.39 for Jurkat, indicating slight selectivity only for the latter. These findings suggest that concentrations below 250 µg/mL are safe and reinforce the potential of EEPPd as a candidate for future studies focused on elucidating mechanisms of action and assessing its anticancer activity.

Abstract: Streams harbor heterogeneous ecosystems, resulting in a diversity of microhabitats that provide sources of shelter and food. In streams, environmental variations exert an adaptive selection on benthic habits, with organisms nesting according to their habitat preferences. In this context, the study aimed to characterize the structure of the aquatic insect assemblage associated with rocky substrates in a stream mesohabitat, with the objective of verifying whether substrate size influences the community's nested pattern. Therefore, 30 rock samples were collected, and the height, width, and length of each were measured. The rocks were washed using wash bottles to remove insects adhered to their surfaces. Subsequently, the insects were stored in 70% alcohol and, in the laboratory, identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level. Ecological descriptors were used to characterize the structure of the aquatic insect community. The NODF (Nestedness metric based on Overlapping and Decreasing Fill) was tested to assess the presence of a nesting pattern. To check correlations between the abundance and richness of aquatic insects based on rock measurements, the non-parametric Spearman correlation test was applied. A total of 603 aquatic insects were sampled, including 595 larvae and 8 adults, distributed across eight orders, 18 families, and 31 genera. The results indicate that the distribution of aquatic insects varied and showed a significant nested pattern as a function of substrate dimensions, corroborating with the assumption that granulometry influences the richness and abundance of individuals contained within the substrate.
