Abstract: Kombucha is a fermented beverage recognized for its functional and antioxidant properties, and it is increasingly consumed by individuals seeking a healthier diet. Following the trend of adding natural ingredients to this drink, red beetroot appears promising due to its richness in bioactive compounds, such as nitrates and betalains. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of adding beetroot juice on the physicochemical characteristics and antioxidant activity of kombucha. The research involved two fermentation phases: the first with green tea and SCOBY, and the second in sealed bottles with beetroot juice, allowing carbonation and interaction between compounds. The analyses performed in this study were pH, ºBrix, and antioxidant activity. Antioxidant activity was determined using the DPPH method, comparing both versions of the beverage. The results indicated that the traditional kombucha presented
an antioxidant activity of 91.19%, while the kombucha flavored with beetroot juice presented 72.24%, indicating a significant reduction. The pH of the flavored kombucha was slightly higher (3.26) compared to the traditional version (3.09), but the difference was not significant. The ºBrix value increased from 2.78 to 4.13, suggesting that beetroot juice influenced the concentration of soluble solids. These results show that the addition of beetroot juice to kombucha resulted in significant changes in its physicochemical and functional characteristics. These changes should be considered when developing new formulations to balance the functional benefits and the quality of the final product.

Abstract: Psidium guineense Sw. (araça-do-campo) is a Myrtaceae native to Brazil, widely used in folk medicine to treat gastrointestinal and genitourinary conditions. Pharmacological and chemical studies of its leaves have confirmed several biological activities, such as antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antiproliferative properties, due to its rich composition of essential oils and other bioactive compounds. Understanding the relevance of knowledge of phytochemical composition, the objective of this study was to investigate the influence of seasonality on the variation of bioactive constituents in aqueous extracts of P. guineense leaves collected throughout the year. The lyophilized extracts demonstrated that the levels of phenolic and polyphenolic compounds vary significantly according to the season, evidencing a strong influence of seasonality on the secondary
metabolism of the plant. In particular, the concentrations of total phenolics, flavonoids, flavonols and condensed tannins showed a marked seasonal dependence, with summer presenting the highest accumulation of most of the investigated compounds. These findings highlight the importance of the collection season in obtaining plant materials with an optimized phytochemical profile, a crucial factor for future biotechnological or pharmaceutical applications.

Abstract: The increasing environmental impact caused by the accumulation of plastic waste has driven the development of biodegradable materials, such as biopolymeric films. This study aimed to develop and compare edible films based on sodium alginate incorporated with aqueous extracts of Pereskia aculeata Mill., evaluating their potential as edible packaging for food products. Two extraction methods were used to obtain the plant's bioactive compounds: infusion and aqueous grinding (crude aqueous extract), at concentrations of 1:10, 2:10, and 3:10 (w/v). The films were produced using the casting technique and characterized in terms of physicochemical, mechanical, optical, and nutritional properties. The results showed that films with crude extracts presented higher protein contents (B1: 4.03%; B2: 6.94%; B3:
7.13%) and phenolic compounds (B1: 653 µg/mL; B2: 640 µg/mL; B3: 937 µg/mL), as well as greater thickness. In contrast, the films with infusion extracts, especially formulation Q3, exhibited higher tensile strength (Q1: 2.49E+07 MPa; Q2: 1.62E+07 MPa; Q3: 3.96E+07 MPa) and lower water vapor permeability (Q1: 4.94 g.mm/KPa.day.m²; Q2: 8.73 g.mm/KPa.day.m²; Q3: 9.45 g.mm/KPa.day.m²), which are desirable traits for improved durability and barrier performance. Color analysis indicated significant changes due to the extracts, influencing the visual acceptance of the material. Furthermore, the addition of extracts had a direct effect on the flexibility and thickness of the films, which varied
according to the concentration and type of extraction used. In this context, alginate-based films enriched with Pereskia aculeata Mill. show potential for application as edible and functional packaging. The choice of extract type depends on the intended application, allowing for the modulation of properties such as strength, flexibility, solubility, and nutritional value.

Abstract: Trichogramma (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) is a genus of wasps commonly used for the biological control of agricultural and forestry pests. Recently, the occurrence of Spodoptera cosmioides (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), a soybean pest, has been observed in eucalyptus plantations. It is known that females of the parasitoid Trichogramma spp. are unable to develop in eggs of the eucalyptus brown looper Thyrinteina arnobia (Lepidoptera: Geometridae), likely due to a toxic compound sequestered by this eucalyptus-feeding lepidopteran. The objective of this study was to compare the biological characteristics (parasitism, emergence, life cycle duration, individuals per egg, sex ratio, and longevity of females and males) of T. pretiosum and T. bruni reared on S. cosmioides eggs obtained from caterpillars fed on artificial diet and eucalyptus leaves. The experiment was conducted using twenty 24-hour-old S. cosmioides eggs, which were glued to sky blue cardboard cards (1.0 cm wide and 7.0 cm long) using 30% arabic gum, and placed individually in glass tubes (1.5 cm in diameter and 10 cm in height) sealed with plastic film and a droplet of honey. Each tube containing a card with 20 glued eggs
received a single Trichogramma female up to 24 hours old. Parasitism was allowed for 24 hours in a climate-controlled room at 25 ± 2 ºC, 70 ± 10% RH, and a 14-hour photophase. During the trial, the following characteristics were evaluated: life cycle duration (egg to adult), parasitism percentage, number of parasitized eggs, emergence percentage, number of individuals per egg, sex ratio, and longevity of the offspring. The experimental design was completely randomized (CRD) with two treatments: eggs from S. cosmioides raised on artificial diet (T1) and eggs from S. cosmioides raised on eucalyptus leaves (T2), each with 15 replicates. The experiment showed that both T. pretiosum and T. bruni were able to parasitize S. cosmioides fed on eucalyptus leaves, indicating potential for future use in its biological control. However, it was also demonstrated that T. pretiosum adults that emerged were negatively affected, and in T. bruni, no adult emergence occurred.
