Abstract: Climate change represents one of the main challenges facing Brazilian agriculture, particularly strategic crops such as soybeans and corn, whose productivity depends directly on temperature and precipitation conditions. This dissertation aimed to analyze the impacts of climate variables on soybean and corn productivity in Brazil, considering potential nonlinear effects and evidence of climate adaptation from 2012 to 2024. Data were obtained from the IBGE System of Automatic Recovery (SIDRA/IBGE), the &#xD;
Brazilian National Institute of Meteorology (INMET), and the Agricultural Activity Guarantee Program (Proagro/MAPA), and organized into a panel dataset comprising 701 observations. The empirical strategy was based on the estimation of fixed-effects panel data models, including a baseline model, a climate nonlinearity model, and a climate adaptation model, selected through specification tests and evaluated through residual diagnostic tests. The results indicated that average temperature has a &#xD;
negative effect on agricultural productivity, whereas precipitation has a positive effect, with corn being the crop most sensitive to climate variations. In the baseline model, a 1°C increase in temperature was associated with an approximately 6.09% reduction in corn productivity, while a 1 mm increase in precipitation was associated with an approximately 0.31% increase in productivity. The nonlinearity models provided evidence of diminishing returns to precipitation for corn, but no robust evidence of &#xD;
temperature nonlinearity. For soybeans, no statistically significant nonlinear effects were identified. The climate adaptation model showed a partial reduction in corn vulnerability to the adverse effects of temperature over the period analyzed, suggesting that technological advances and improvements in agricultural management contributed to mitigating some of the negative climate impacts. For soybeans, &#xD;
however, no statistically significant evidence of climate adaptation was found. The findings indicate that climate change significantly affects Brazilian agricultural productivity, particularly corn production, reinforcing the need for public policies focused on climate adaptation, technological development, and strengthening the resilience of agricultural production systems in response to the increasing frequency &#xD;
of extreme climate events.

Abstract: Microplastics in the environment are becoming ubiquitous, and their widespread distribution in aquatic environments poses a global environmental concern. Given the rising trend of this contamination, it is necessary to develop removal technologies that combine efficiency with low cost. In this context, adsorption combined with magnetic separation emerges as a promising strategy, as it enables both the capture of microplastics (MPs) and the recovery of the adsorbent from the aqueous medium. Thus, this study aimed to develop and evaluate a magnetic bioadsorbent—designated LCMAGNaOH—composed of Luffa cylindrica (LC) fruit (commonly known as vegetable sponge) modified with NaOH and combined with natural micrometric magnetite (MAG), for the removal of polystyrene (PS) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) microparticles. Synthesis was carried out without organic solvents and at temperatures below 100 °C. The resulting material was characterized using physicochemical and morphological techniques—including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD)—to assess its morphology and confirm the presence of the magnetite phase. The removal efficiency of LCMAGNaOH was evaluated using PS and PET MPs ranging from 75 to 600 µm in size across three aqueous matrices: drinking water, simulated seawater, and water collected from a eutrophic lake in Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Tests were conducted with short contact times and without continuous agitation, and residual MP concentrations were determined via ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy and gravimetry. Additionally, the stability of the magnetic phase, the recovery of the bioadsorbent via magnetic separation using a neodymium magnet, and its reusability over three cycles were evaluated. LCMAGNaOH demonstrated high removal capacity with a short contact time, achieving approximately 82% for PS and 81% for PET within 10 minutes. Magnetic separation also enabled the recovery of over 90% of the material mass, demonstrating the feasibility of its removal from the aqueous medium after treatment. The results show that LCMAGNaOH is an efficient magnetic bioadsorbent for capturing microplastics in various aqueous &#xD;

Abstract: This dissertation examines how the Brazilian classic Dom Casmurro (1899) came to be read as a kind of “courtroom fiction” and argues that the novel’s enduring ambiguity emerges from the pact between narrative form and the literary imaginary theorized by Maurice Blanchot. The objective is threefold: (i) &#xD;
to map the pre-1960 critical reception that consolidated Capitu’s alleged adultery as dogma; (ii) to analyze the rupture inaugurated by Helen Caldwell’s 1960 study, which repositions Bentinho as an unreliable narrator and reopens the case for Capitu’s innocence; and (iii) to relate this reception shift to Blanchot’s concepts of image, void, and the “death of the author,” proposing that the novel sustains itself &#xD;
in the space of absence that the reader necessarily fills. Methodologically, the research combines reception history, close reading of key chapters with “judicial” rhetoric, and a theoretical framework anchored in Blanchot to articulate how image (as presence of absence) structures both the text and its criticism. The results identify a tripartite trajectory: an initial phase that treats Capitu as definitively guilty &#xD;
and Bentinho as trustworthy; a caldwellian turn that turns suspicion upon the narrator and reframes the book as an argumentative plea and a subsequent consolidation of ambiguity as a scholarly norm linked to Blanchot’s imaginary/void. The conclusion is that Dom Casmurro persists not by resolving the “case,” but by staging an inexhaustible space where form invites judgment without delivering verdict, it means that the novel’s vitality arises from its constitutive void, which converts readers into jurors and transforms the fortune of the work into a history of interpretive oscillation with the thereby contributing both to Machado studies and to debates on literature’s relation to image, absence, and reception.
