Abstract: Brazil harbors the greatest plant biodiversity on the planet, which highlights the importance of studies focused on the chemical, ecological, and functional characterization of plant species with biological potential. In this context, Momordica charantia L. (Cucurbitaceae), popularly known as bitter melon, stands out due to its widespread use in traditional medicine and the presence of secondary metabolites with ecological and pharmacological relevance. The present study aimed to evaluate the seasonal variation of the essential oil and the microscopic characteristics of M. charantia, as well as to investigate the allelopathic potential of its essential oil and leaf extracts on the germination and initial growth of Crotalaria ochroleuca G. Don (Fabaceae).The first manuscript assessed the yield and chemical composition of the essential oil extracted from the aerial parts (leaves and stems) of M. charantia over 12 consecutive months. The essential oil was obtained by hydrodistillation and subsequently analyzed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS), in addition to microscopic and histochemical analyses of leaves and stems. The results revealed significant variations in essential oil yield and chemical composition, with March 2026 showing the highest yield (0.53%), followed by December 2025 (0.50%). These variations were mainly influenced by the plant’s phenological stage, with predominance of the compounds (Z)-3-hexenol and linalool.The second manuscript investigated the allelopathic effects of aqueous and methanolic extracts and the essential oil of M. charantia on the germination and early growth of C. ochroleuca. The results indicated no significant effect on germination; however, pronounced inhibitory effects were observed on root growth, particularly associated with the methanolic extract, demonstrating allelopathic potential dependent on extract type, &#xD;
concentration, and exposure time. Taken together, these findings expand the knowledge on the &#xD;
chemical variability of M. charantia and its role in ecological interactions, contributing to the understanding of its potential application in sustainable strategies, especially for the management &#xD;
of plants of agricultural interest.

Abstract: This study aimed to describe the species richness and diversity and analyze the phytosociological aspects of a stretch of riparian forest along the Olho D’água River, located in the Recanto Ecológico Rio da Prata Private Natural Heritage Reserve in the municipality of Jardim, MS. Ten plots of 15 x 20 m each were distributed along the riverbank. In each plot, all individuals with a diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 3.18 cm were sampled, totaling 394 individuals belonging to 25 families, 43 genera, and 50 species. The families Fabaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Lauraceae, Myrtaceae, and Rubiaceae stood out for their high number of species. Actinostemon concolor (Spreng.) Müll.Arg., Adelia membranifolia (Müll.Arg.) Chodat &amp; Hassl., and Anadenanthera colubrina (Vell.) Brenan were the species with the highest importance value. The Shannon diversity index (H’) obtained was 2.38 nats/individual and the &#xD;
evenness (J’) was 0.597. The results obtained in this work are extremely important to support &#xD;
management and restoration projects in these formations.

Abstract: Characiformes comprises approximately 280 genera and more than 2,300 species distributed among 24 families. Within this order, Acestrorhamphidae represents the most species-rich family, popularly known as tetras, lambaris and piabas, and exhibits remarkable morphological and ecological diversity, with nearly 1,300 valid species. The genus Astyanax is one of the most representative and widely distributed within the family, encompassing species that inhabit environments ranging from small headwater streams to large river systems, many of which remain poorly known from a scientific perspective. Among these species is Astyanax saltor, originally described in 1960 based on specimens collected in the Rio Cachimbo, Pará State, Brazil. Although the validity of the species has never been challenged, it lacks modern taxonomic studies that test this assumption and clearly delimit its taxonomic boundaries. Herein, Astyanax saltor is redescribed and diagnosed from its congeners based on meristic, morphometric, and coloration characters. The species is proposed as endemic to the rio Braço Norte basin, a tributary of the rio Teles Pires, in Pará State. In addition, several morphotypes from neighboring regions previously identified as Astyanax saltor were examined; these are described herein and proposed as potential new species.

Abstract: Knowledge about aquatic macroinvertebrates in lentic karst environments is still scarce, especially in the Neotropical region. Lagoa Misteriosa is one of these environments, presenting a unique characteristic for karstic lakes: two distinct annual periods, With Algal Bloom - CFA (low transparency) and Without Algal Bloom - SFA (high transparency). Thus, this study aimed to characterize the aquatic macroinvertebrate assemblage associated with macrophytes in the karstic doline Lagoa Misteriosa. Additionally, we investigated whether the periods influence the structure of aquatic macroinvertebrate assemblages. Sampling was carried out bimonthly from October 2021 to August 2022 (three samples in each period). The collected macrophytes were washed under running water to obtain aquatic macroinvertebrates, and the analyses were conducted using R software. A total of 9834 individuals were sampled, distributed across 42 taxa. Among these, mollusks represented about 51% of the individuals, with Hydrobiidae being the densest and the presence of an exotic mollusc species: Melanoides tuberculatus. Aquatic insects accounted for 29 taxa and seven orders, with the order Coleoptera being the most abundant, especially the Elmidae family. Regarding the CFA and SFA periods, there was a &#xD;
significant difference in the composition and density of aquatic macroinvertebrates, with 5,831 individuals sampled during the CFA period (59%), 39 taxa, a higher density of Microcylloepus. Meanwhile, 4003 individuals (41%) and 27 taxa were sampled during the SFA period, dominated by Hydrobiidae molluscs. Redundancy analysis demonstrated that dissolved oxygen and taxa Chironominae, Polycentropus, and Microcylloepus positively correlated with the CFA period, whereas TDS parameters, transparency, and Hydrobiidae taxa negatively correlated with the SFA period. We infer that low water transparency and increased sunlight might be affecting macrophyte density and consequently the structure of aquatic macroinvertebrate assemblages. With this study, we contribute to filling existing knowledge gaps about organisms present in tropical freshwater lentic karst ecosystems, which may be used for future conservation and protection procedures for these aquatic ecosystems.
