Abstract: This study investigates the factors that influence the household solid waste disposal methods in Brazil, within the context of the circular economy. Using data from the 2015 PNAD (Brazilian National Household Sample Survey), a multinomial logit econometric model was estimated to identify how socioeconomic and regional variables affect the likelihood of households adopting proper waste disposal practices. The results reveal that higher education levels, higher income, and being female significantly increase the probability of adopting adequate waste management (direct collection). In contrast, residents in the North and Northeast regions are more prone to environmentally harmful practices such as burning or discarding waste in open areas. These findings highlight the urgent need for targeted public policies to universalize adequate waste management services across the country and promote
environmental awareness, particularly in underserved regions. The study contributes to the literature on urban sustainability and the development of circular economy strategies in Brazil.

Abstract: Improving the level and quality of education is essential for a country's development and plays a key role in securing better jobs, higher wages, and lower unemployment rates. Understanding the importance of education, this study examines the relationship between educational indicators and labor market outcomes for young adults (ages 15 to 24) in Brazil's Centro-Oeste region. Using data from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNADC) from the first quarter of 2013 and 2023, the study analyzes variables such as gender, race/color, residence area, years of schooling, occupation, social security contributions, and work hours. Descriptive analysis reveals notable progress among women in achieving higher levels of education and a reduction in illiteracy rates for both genders. However, disparities persist, particularly among Black and Mixed-race populations, who continue to have slightly higher illiteracy rates compared to White individuals. A comparison of 2013 and 2023 data shows
overall improvements in educational attainment, with more individuals completing secondary and higher education. Despite ongoing inequalities, particularly among Indigenous and Black populations, there is evidence of progress in educational opportunities. Furthermore, in 2023, there was a notable increase in individuals holding two or more jobs compared to 2013, suggesting a greater need for supplementary income or engagement in informal work. The analysis concludes that education continues to significantly influence work conditions, with higher educational levels linked to more balanced work hours and formal job opportunities, while those with lower education are more likely to face demanding work conditions or
exclusion from the labor market.

Abstract: Regional development in Mato Grosso do Sul faces significant challenges due to socioeconomic inequalities and the state’s territorial diversity. This study seeks to understand the context of human and regional development in Mato Grosso do Sul by analyzing socioeconomic indicators, evaluating the impact of public policies, and proposing sustainable and inclusive development strategies. The main objective is to assess how policies and indicators influence regional development, taking into account local specificities and persistent gaps. The research uses a bibliographic review method, gathering and analyzing prior theories and studies on regional development, focusing on theories of cumulative causation and endogenous growth, as well as the application of indicators such as the FIRJAN Municipal Development Index (IFDM) and the Human Development Index (HDI). The results indicate that while public policies in Mato Grosso do Sul show some progress, they still fail to equitably address the needs of less developed municipalities, highlighting the need for resource decentralization and adaptation. The analysis also emphasizes strategies integrating professional training, local entrepreneurship, and sustainability as ways to reduce inequalities and promote inclusive development. In conclusion, achieving balanced regional development in Mato Grosso do Sul requires policies tailored to local needs, prioritizing social inclusion and environmental preservation. Implementing these strategies could contribute to a more equitable and sustainable future for the state.

Abstract: This study analyzes the evolution of the export agenda of the Central-West region of Brazil and the main destinations of its exports from 2013 to 2023. Based on the analysis of data obtained from ComexStat, it was possible to verify that the region stands out in agribusiness, with the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, and the Distrito Federal playing a key role in the country's agricultural sector. These states lead exports of soybeans, corn, beef, cellulose, and cotton. The main destinations include Asia, followed by Europe and the European Union, and the Middle East. Despite high productivity, the export agenda is concentrated in commodities, which may expose the region to vulnerabilities from climate fluctuations and external instabilities. Therefore, there is a need to formulate trade policies and
encourage the production of higher-value-added items.
