Não se nasce monstro, torna-se: uma análise criminológicointeracionista da obra Frankenstein, de Mary Shelley

Abstract

This monograph is a critic over the punitive system, it also brings the proposition of a paradigmatical change of the criminal law in face of the abolitionist hypothesis, starting from the analysis of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus about the effects of social reaction on the deviant individual’s self-conception. As for the methodological aspects, we have the bibliographical analysis of theories and authors, both representing the conflict criminology current, as well as the use of concepts that arise from the interactionist theory, which originates from the existentialist philosophical perspective and from the labeling approach theory, in order to elucidate the criminogenic character of the labeling process that results from the use of coercive instruments with the purpose of meeting the social claim by sanction in response to the commission of a crime.
