Mulheres indígenas em associações: as Guarani e Kaiowá e a Aty Kuña

Abstract

The state of Mato Grosso do Sul presents the second biggest urban indigenous reservation and the second biggest indigenous population of Brazil. Among the ethnicities living in the state are the Guarani and the Kaiowá people. From the 1980’s onwards, along with the emergence of new social movements, the movements of indigenous claims emerge on the national scenario. The Guarani and Kaiowá indigenous of Mato Grosso do Sul began to organize to claim their political guidelines to the brazilian State in 1979. It was during the great religious ritual called Jeroky Guasu and the first assembly Aty Guasu that began the process of articulation for the reoccupation and resumption of the traditional territories, besides the claim for public politics for their people. But it was only in 2006 that the Guarani and Kaiowá women created an assembly to claim guidelines specific to indigenous women, the Aty Kunã. This work focuses on the understanding of colonialism of power and the modern patriarchy under the Guarani and Kaiowá women and analyzes the Aty Kunã in order to understand the conjuncture and the struggle of Guarani and Kaiowá women in Mato Grosso do Sul. To do so, the methodology used was the bibliographical revision of the Guarani and Kaiowá history, their ways of life, besides the analysis of the final documents of Aty Kunã. And to better understand the local conjuncture and the situation that Guarani and Kaiowá are inserted, the field work will be used.
