A Síndrome da Talidomida e o direito das vítimas: repercussão internacional

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the protective environment of Human Rights that involves victims of Thalidomide Syndrome in international scope through of the facts and rights violations that can be understood as a global tragedy. After 50 years of the first cases of birth defects caused by the drug, victims around the world still suffer the consequences of one of the biggest disasters of the global pharmaceutical industry, coexisting with the indifference of the authorities and others still ignorate (unknown) the reasons for their malformations. In this sense, this study will analyse of the current situation in the international sphere and regional laws involving Thalidomide and people affected by adverse effects, like declarations, conventions, protocols, standards and reparation for damage. Beyond this, an explanation of the importance of non-governmental organizations as a defender of the rights and claims of the victims of Thalidomide Syndrome. In the expectation of that events like this receive special attention, be exemplarily punished and not repeated in the history of mankind, this study points to the need to continue the negotiations concerning about human rights of victims, as well as rigid and effective bioethics legislation.
