A Mulher como leitora: memórias de professoras: Dourados-MS (1963-1973)

Abstract

This search intends to interrogate using five teachers’ memories of reading, who taught between the 1963 and 1973 years in the Joaquim Murtinho Municipal School, what was offered to the woman to read, as well as if there were any prohibitions on the written material accessible and what do they get interested to read, trying to understand their reading practices. We also have the intention to understand the ways that this reading material walked to Dourados city, in the Mato Grosso do Sul state. To do this, we are going to make use of the techniques transmitted through Oral History as the main methodological source of this essay. The changes happened through the History have given rise to new trends in historiography, proposing new ways of questioning reality, and, as a consequence, the use of the memory in scientific searches has been more and more important, using the Oral History to rescue life histories. To the comprehension of the reading history and the practices that involves it, we are going to analyze the reading through the cultural history’s perspective, considering it as cultural thing, seeking to show the use that the lector made of the reading, not only considering the reception as a direct action of the ideas that the text transmits. We believe that, more than just search what was offered to the woman as a reading, it is necessary to understand the individuals, the family relationships, the society relationships in general, because, considered as a cultural object the book shows different meanings when it is interpreted inside different communities, at different times. Working with this perspective, we interviewed five teachers between 58 and 82 years old, and theirs reports brought to this search not only their reading memories, but also their childhood memories, their adolescence memories, their mastership memories, in other words, their life memories. We have the intention to contribute, through this search, to a better understanding of the woman’s history as a reader in Dourados city, a history that bring to us books, magazines, lectors, teachers, in other words, subjects not covered by the official history of this city, but that we are intending to say that made part of this history.
