Nomes e predicados nominais em Kaiowá

Abstract

The present dissertation aimed to make a descriptive study about names and nominal predicates in Kaiowá. It is a proposal for analysis from the morphological and syntactic point of view of the Name category in that language. Some works on this subject have already been carried out, we can highlight those of J. Taylor & A. Taylor (1966, s / d), Bridgeman (1981, 2001) and Cardoso (2001, 2008). However, the descriptions performed need a more thorough treatment of the processes of inflection, derivation and composition, from the morphological point of view, as well as a more systematic discussion about argument and predicate, from a syntactic point of view. Because of the existing gaps and the need for a more systematic study of nouns and nominal predicates, we propose to revise these points of the Kaiowá grammar in order to deepen the knowledge of one of the main categories in this language: the noun. We emphasize that the Kaiowá language belongs to sub-branch I of the Tupí-Guaraní family, according to Rodrigues (1984/1985) and that, for this reason, we use the available descriptions of the languages of this linguistic family in order to understand the behavior of the nouns And the construction of predicates in the sister languages of the Kaiowá. This study aims to strengthen the evidence of genetic affinities and to understand the processes of changes that have occurred over time on the aspects to be described for that language, but also to identify the conservative aspects with respect to the form and function of the nouns and their predicates. This work is based on Rodrigues (1947, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1981, 1996, 2000, 2001, 2010), Cabral (2001, 2007), since they are works that stand out in the descriptive studies of Tupí languages And Tupí-Guarani. In order to understand the nouns and their structural and distributional properties, we base our description proposal on Dixon (2010), Payne (1997) and Bybee (1985). With the present research, it is hoped to contribute to the better understanding of the noun category in Kaiowá, for the revision of existing dictionaries of that language, as well as the revision of grammar and for the production of teaching materials to be used at schools of the indigenous communities Guarani and Kaiowá of Mato Grosso do Sul and other locations.
