Os Efeitos de sentido de humor no discurso religioso-midiático do Pastor Claudio Duarte

Abstract

With this paper, we have the goal of presenting a study that investigates the functioning of humor in the religious speech represented in the media, having as example the statements of Pastor Claudio Duarte. The mediatic religious speech contributes to the Christian proselytism and to the adhesion of believers/customers who seek services and products of the NeoCharismatic religious organizations. The humors used in the evangelical speech becomes a product sold as a fun preaching, a new option of religious service/product to be consumed. Duarte presents himself as a good-humored pastor whose preaching is not the expected one for a traditional evangelical worship, attending this marketing perspective of faith. It is the mediatization and commercialization of a religious speech that instigates empathy and acceptance by the usage of humor, building, for example, a stereotyped religious speech that attends the commercial interests of the religion. A speech made by a discursive subject who has the leadership with a high level of influence and many followers. Although moved by humor, the religious doctrine and discipline are enforced to the Christians/clients. On the face of it our study seeks to understand how this method of comical preaching is built and which linguistic-discursive elements contribute to the effect of humor. The proposal of our work is to delimitate the social space that occupies the subject-pastor regarding the religious institution he represents (Neo-charismatic Church) and to understand the contribution of humor and its effects of meaning in the religious discourse to describe and analyze the statements presenting stereotypes of women, men and marriage. Our methodology of analysis is the qualitative research. We divided the text in: Chapter I - Discursive Theory and conceptions about humor; Chapter II - The protestant religion and the discursive practices in the religious space: the discursive position of the subject-pastor Claudio Duarte, and Chapter III - the construction of humor in the religious discourse. Based on the theoretical contribution of the French analysis of discourse, according to the contributions of Michel Pêcheux and Michel Foucault, we observed that the use of humor in the religious speech might be considered a tool of indoctrination. Through this analysis we have concluded that the preaching of the pastor, besides presenting a disciplinary effect (FOUCAULT, 2014), presents itself as a discourse packed with stereotyping, prejudice and male chauvinism.
