Abstract: The manso pine nut is a culture that has shown favorable features for the oil large scale production to make biodiesel. The plant presents itself in period of study in the different kinds of specializations in the agronomic area, due to be an untamed culture. Among the several difficulties for the commercial production, the manso pine nut shows as one of the main difficulties the harvest, because the manual harvest can become unviable the crop exploitation for commercial purposes, besides increasing the costs. However, there are some methods that have been studied to mechanize the harvest of the manso pine nut fruits. The portable harvesters show good performance and selective harvest in the coffee fruits harvest. Thus, it’s believed in its good performance and operation also in the selective harvest of the manso pine nut fruits by the similarity in the no uniform way of making the fruits ripe, like in the coffee one. At first, it is also shown the need to know the plants and fruits morphology to adapt it to the harvesters. Regarding the harvester, it’s important to know the machine features, as well as the best level of frequency of vibration to harvest the fruits, without damaging the plants. The aim of this paper was to analyze the technical feasibility of the portable harvester use in the manso pine nut fruits harvest. They were mounted three experiments, being one to evaluate the plants and fruits morphological features in Dourados-MS, a second to evaluate the performance of a portable harvester in the manso pine nut fruits harvest in Anastácio-MS, and the last one to evaluate the different systems of manso pine nut fruits harvest. For the plants morphological characterization of the plants they were determined: the plant height, the shortest branches height, the canopy diameter, the log diameter, number of main branches, diameter of the main branches in the insertion and in the half of its length, the insertion height of the main branches, the inclination of the main branches in relation to the log, and the main branches length. In the fruits, they were evaluated: size and diameter of the fruits, and stem length and diameter. The used experimental design was entirely randomized, consisting of two ages of the manso pine nut plants (one and three years old), and three phases of fruits ripening (green, ripe and dry). They were evaluated 40 plants and 750 fruits, by each age. To evaluate the harvester performance in the manso pine nut fruits harvest, in Anastácio-MS, there was a plan where the handlings were called harvest systems: in the harvest system 1 (SC1), it was used the Nakashi I Turbo II harvester working in a planting line, where the user was responsible to harvest the two sides of the same plant, with frequency of stems vibration of 2,374 rpm. In the harvest system 2 (SC2), the user harvested the two sides of the same plant, with 2,736 rpm of vibration frequency. In the third harvest system (SC3), the user harvested the two sides of the same plant, with free frequency, in other words, with a range from 1,444 to 2,736 rpm. The fourth harvest system (SC4) was compounded by fruits manual harvest, where it was compounded by a user to harvest the two sides of the plant. It was used the design in randomized blocks with four handlings and five repetitions. In the experimental design in Dourados-MS, it was used the design in randomized blocks, with four harvest systems: in the harvest system1 (SC1) they used Nakashi I Turbo II harvester working in a planting line, where the user was responsible to harvest the two sides of the same plant. In the harvest system 2 (SC2) it was used Brudden DCM 11 harvester, where the user working in a planting line, was responsible to harvest the two sides of the plant. In the third harvest system (SC3) they were used the two harvesters operating simultaneously in the same line, where each user harvested one side of the plant. In the three semi-mechanical harvest systems, the harvesters were operated with free acceleration, in other words, with frequency from 1,444 to 2736 rpm in the Nakashi I Turbo II and from 1,040 to 2.155,5 rpm. The fourth harvest system (SC4) was for manual fruits harvest. The morphological attributes manso pine nut plants in their three years old of development were 51% bigger than those with a year, except for the number of primary branches that was not changed and for the training period of fruit ripening. Through the evaluated morphological features of manso pine nut fruits and plants, there is a possibility to use the portable harvester in the fruits harvest. The manso pine nut plants pruning is necessary to adapt the use of the harvester in the harvest. The plants genetic improvement is necessary to standardize the fruit ripening, thus, avoiding the pass, and increasing the efficiency in the mechanical harvest. The harvest capacity of the harvester was five times higher than the manual harvest of manso pine nut fruits independently of the stems vibration frequency. The harvest efficiency with the harvester was equal to the manual harvest efficiency. The defoliation index in 2,374 rpm frequency was the same as the one obtained in the manual harvest. The emitted noise level of in the vibration frequency of 2,736 rpm (104.6 dBA) was the highest among the handlings, being above all the allowed levels for an exposition of 8 hours daily. The harvest capacity with harvester was 4.8 times bigger than in the manual harvest system (SC3) where they operated the two machines simultaneously in the same plant, being the other harvest systems statistically equal to the manual system. For the mechanized harvest, the biggest selective efficiency was observed when Nakashi I Turbo II harvester was used, being the values statistically equal to the manual system. The defoliation in the manual harvest and in SC3 system was statistically equal.
