A Inserção dos frigoríficos exportadores de Mato Grosso do Sul no mercado global

Abstract

The insertion of Mato Grosso do Sul in the national export scenario occurs largely through commodity agribusiness, in this perspective we have the slaughterhouse sector as one of the most representative groups working in the export trade. In the directions of our research we analyze the performance of three main slaughterhouse groups present in Mato Grosso do Sul state in the first decade of this century, specifically in the period of 2005/2010. The herd of cattle of the state and the tax politics incentivated the slaughterhouse groups JBS, Marfrig and Independencia to get interested in acting on the territory of Mato Grosso do Sul state, adopting aggressive strategies to acquire competitors, concentration and monopolization of the sector. The industrial units of these slaughterhouse groups are concentrated in regions that favor the logic of profits in scale, located in areas of high concentration of livestock, or nearest to the border with the states of South and Southeast regions mainly. In this context we analyze how the insertion of slaughterhouse groups in the global scenario reflects on the market and on local competitiveness, and how the state and municipalities become dependents of the oscillating model of primary exporter. We seek to clarify that in each historical stage of production, its realization requires a proper place, endowed with special features that best attends its production or fraction, allowing the place to be endowed with a particular meaning, because every time the productive use of this space segment will be changed.
